As part of Adult Learners’ Week 2008, the London Development Agency provided funding via a project called Adult Learners’ Week Plus to run a photography competition for adults across London who are learning about the techniques and art of photography. The theme of the competition was “Learning through Sport and Leisure”. The competition was judged by Richard Walton FRPS.

Richard Walton started dabbling in photography in 1988, and found that it quickly became his life. After joining the Royal Photographic Society in 1991, he started lecturing and exhibiting his photos. He won several awards, and became a Fellow of the RPS in 2001. Although he works with all types of photography, he is most fascinated with monochrome and how it impacts on line, form and texture.

Find out more about Richard and see his photography by visiting his website 'richardwalton.co.uk'.

The three winning photographers were presented with their awards at the London Regional Adult
Learners’ Awards Ceremony at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS on the 22nd May 2008 and can be found by clicking on the picture below.

The Winners

The online gallery displays all of the entries, and you can see what a difficult job Richard had to choose the winners! There are some superb images here, and everyone at the LDA and within the London Adult Learners’ Week campaign team would like to offer sincere congratulations to all those learners who took part. We very much hope that the experience has encouraged them all to continue with their photography learning. Amanda Pavon-Lopez London Coordinator, Adult Learners’ Week
